Start below your level, not above it
Most people who feel bad at math are not bad at math — they have two or three missing building blocks from earlier years. Fractions, negative numbers and the order of operations show up in every later topic, so a gap there makes algebra feel impossible.

Math is a motor skill as much as a knowledge subject. Short daily sessions build automaticity — the ability to do the small steps without thinking, so your working memory is free for the actual problem.
Pick a fixed time, aim for 10–20 minutes, and protect the streak. Missing one day is fine; missing three in a row is where progress stops.
Redo every problem you got wrong
A wrong answer is only useful if you redo the problem from a blank page later the same week. Reading the solution feels like learning but rarely transfers to a test.
Keep an error log: the problem, what you did, and the one sentence that explains the mistake. Most students find that 80% of their errors come from four or five recurring patterns.
